Our Donors and the Difference they Make
The history of Presbyterian Senior Living is a story of how a set of institutional values, developed over time with experience and prayer, has developed into a significant network of care which remains faithful to its mission. From early on, the adage, “great oaks from tiny acorns grow,” represents our humble beginnings and steady growth over the past 83 years.
It is helpful to think of Presbyterian Senior Living as a work in progress, growing, and adapting as the needs of seniors change. It was the initial contribution of Mrs. Ellen Parker that launched the organization into a reality. Mrs. Parker’s primary focus was on meting human need and the relief of suffering. This approach has left an indelible mark on the organization that continues to this day, and it serves as a foundation for future development.
The spread of facilities and services throughout four states at 23 locations is just one part of the Ellen Parker legacy. Another part of the legacy is the unselfish giving by so many to support the mission of the organization. Many individuals have followed her example, such as Clarence & Evetta Schock, Dr. N.B. Steward, Julia Wilson Pound, John H. Ware III, Mark J. Kennedy, George and Ruth Slifer, Orpha Hayes, Jack and Helen Poorman, Jacob Barnhart, William and Dorothy Yingling, and William and Joan Moyer. Plus countless others.
These people have left their “fingerprints” on our organization through their generous contributions of time and talent. They have created or left behind wonderful legacies of faithful service – legacies that inspire and challenge us to consider what we are doing to leave behind our own legacy for future generations.
From big to small, the contributions we receive make a lasting imprint on the lives of those we serve.
